Stainless steel fabrication doesn’t end at the last weld. Every cut, grind, and weld leaves behind heat tint, embedded iron, and surface contamination that compromise the passive layer your material depends on for corrosion resistance. At Northern Manufacturing, finishing and assembly happen under the same roof as fabrication, with the same team that built your product from the start.
That matters because handoffs between shops introduce risk: contamination from carbon steel environments, lost traceability, and finger-pointing when something doesn’t fit. We eliminate those risks with in-house pickling and passivation, dedicated stainless bead blasting, mechanical assembly, and trial fit testing, all in a 160,000 sq ft facility with dedicated stainless-only production space.
Surface Restoration
Welding stainless steel depletes the chromium-rich passive layer in the heat-affected zone. Without proper post-weld treatment, those areas will corrode first, regardless of how good the weld itself is.
Our pickling and passivation capability includes a 55-foot spray booth (55′ x 20′ x 20′) that handles oversized assemblies other shops have to send out. We process to ASTM A380 and A967, with full chemical traceability on every batch. For cosmetic and functional surface finishes, our stainless bead blasting booth (34′ x 16′ x 16′) uses stainless steel media only, in a carbon-free environment. No cross-contamination, no embedded particles, no rework.
Assembly and Verification
Complex stainless fabrications often ship to job sites where field conditions make rework expensive and time-consuming. We catch fit-up problems before they leave our facility.
Mechanical assembly keeps your project under one roof from raw material through final bolt-up. Gaskets, hardware, instrumentation mounts, structural supports: your fabrication ships ready to install, not ready to assemble. Our trial fit and functional testing program verifies dimensional accuracy, component alignment, and interface fit before crating. When your crew opens the box on site, everything goes together the first time.
Why Single-Source Finishing Matters
Sending stainless fabrications to a separate finishing house creates three problems. First, you lose chain of custody on material certifications and weld documentation. Second, you expose clean stainless to a facility that may also process carbon steel. Third, you add weeks of transit time and coordination between two shops that don’t share a quality system.
Northern Manufacturing is a full-service stainless steel fabricator with ISO 9001:2015 certification across every process from cutting through final inspection. One PO, one quality system, one team accountable for the finished product.
